Approximately 172,412,545 people have been affected by 1,862 HITECH Act breaches through March 17
, according to a HIP/SA analysis of data released by the HHS Office for Civil Rights (OCR). That suggested
that 30 newly posted breaches affected approximately 1,006,984 patients in incidents reported from Jan. 18
through Feb. 17.
The latest statistics indicated that:
- Breaches of network servers continued to affect the majority of patients;
- The theft of laptops was the leading reason for breaches; and
- BAs were involved in 316 large breaches on the OCR Wall of Shame.
